Introducing ATB Instructional Design

Hello, from Brooklyn, New York! 

My name is Alexander Thompson-Burton, I'm 25 years old and I am studying Instructional Design & Technology at Liberty University. I am in my second semester and I will graduate in May 2021 with a Master's in Higher Education. I am a multifaceted communications individual with an interest in how technology and media can support learning and development through instructional design methodologies to increase the user experience by creating accessible documentation for all.

My background as a content analyst has allowed me to apply core technical writing, researching, editing, and operational procedures. I believe technical writing, e-learning, and instructional design materials help develop the bases of accessible resources and content for end-users.

I currently work as a Supplier Content Analyst at Thomas Publishing ( Thomas) in New York City. I studied Professional & Technical Writing in my undergraduate studies and was drawn to the Instructional Design/Technology realm during one of my senior year classes in Digital Storytelling and Advanced Technical Writing. In Digital Storytelling I was able to use Adobe Captivate where you can create E-learning videos or demo's on how to use a product. In my Advanced technical Writing class , I created quick user/reference guides on how to access a homepage on a LMS ( Learning Management System) platform AKA MOODLE for education.  I also interned with Graphic Designers as an Technical Writer to update their company profile descriptions and create Usability Test reports for students in Academic Advising .

Having worked in corporate America, I quickly realized that the fast paced Manhattan lifestyle is not for me, and I would prefer to be using my time developing educational technologies in the classroom in universities or k-12 schools. I believe educating students to use immersive technologies will benefit them in the workplace especially in underprivileged communities.

Currently, I use Content Management Systems (CMS) at my job as an Analyst to write company profile descriptions for Advertiser Accounts and Free Listing Accounts.

I am trying to take an elective next semester in Art 600 where I can learn Web Development, HTML, Storyboards, and more. This will be helpful for my degree in Instructional Design & Technology and my future career working in a educational setting helping students with emerging technologies.

* Fun Fact, my name is Alexander because my mother wanted a boy and when she found out she was pregnant with a girl, she decided to keep the name. I AM A FEMALE... Enjoy!
